Maritime Law

Reyero Álvarez & Asociados is highly rated in maritime work and has a wealth of experience in the field. Our strategic location in Caracas enables us to promptly reach all of the Venezuelan main ports in the Caribbean coastline, as well as the main ports in the Orinoco River and in Maracaibo Lake.

On the Admiralty side, we act for P&I Clubs, ship-owners, charterers, and cargo interests. Our Law Office has been involved in many well-known cases representing a wide range of clients in major maritime casualties in Venezuela.

On the Insurance side, we act for underwriters and other insurers in matters related to coverage, liability and recoveries. Our lawyers are especially familiar with the marine insurance London market (Institute Hulls Clauses / Institute Cargo Clauses) and American market (the American Hulls Clauses). In the past years we have been actively advising ship-owners and insurers in cases where vessels have been detained in Venezuelan ports after authorities have discover drugs on board.

On the Finance side, we act for many leading ship-finance banks as well as for a wide range of ship-owners, managers, operators and other investors across all areas of the shipping and off-shore sectors. We advise clients on new and second-hand sale and purchase agreements, shipbuilding contracts (including fast ferry boats and private yachts), ship registration, construction and operation.

We also advise clients on charter-parties, ship recycling, pooling agreements, management agreements and joint venture agreements.
